Born in Paris in 1985, Maya grew up between France and Lebanon, studying law and cinema.
A journalist turned entrepreneur, she has always been passionate about contemporary love. Now back in Paris after a decade away, she offers a fresh, critical perspective on her native city. In her search for identity and the influence of her origins on her approach to love and sexuality, she turns to the stories of others for both questions and answers. She began with a small-scale sociological study, meeting a wide range of people through dating apps. Initially filming her encounters, she gradually abandoned the camera in favor of writing, a practice she had long pursued.
Her short stories unfold like the encounters themselves—one after another—blending her own experiences with those of others. Little by little, these narratives give a voice to those who remain unseen or overlooked. Through them, Maya explores themes such as the collision of social classes, the reversal of gender roles, the role of madness in love, emotional and sexual solitude, and the ever-evolving definition of a couple.
The characters in her book are as ordinary as they are unconventional, as detestable as they are familiar—willing to do anything, or nothing at all, in their pursuit of connection.
“NEXT” will be published by Eukalypto in April 2025.
Maya now lives in Paris with her daughter and her cat, Phoebe, and is working on her first novel.
